Alice Jean Martens

Alice Jean Martens, age 93, of Kalamo Township passed away Saturday, December 23, 2017 in Charlotte. She was born August 11, 1924 in Charlotte the daughter of Robert and Marion (Claflin) Wright. On Saturday, October 12, 1946 at 10 AM at the Congregational Church in Charlotte she married Grant B. Martens. She was a true homemaker. Alice kept a huge garden. She canned and froze each years harvest. Alice also sold AVON for a few years. She enjoyed making quilts and sewing. Alice was a lifelong member of the Kalamo United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women, and the Eastern Star. She was a very active person her entire life. Even into her early 80s she could be found mowing her yard, running the snow blower, or walking her daily 2 miles. Alice is survived by her daughters: Ruth (Richard) Avery, Gail (Michael) Dye; seven grandchildren: Darren (Katy) Avery, Amanda (Paul) Hubinsky, Brian Dye, Matt (Kelly) Dye, Andrew (Rosa) Dye, Mary (Justin) Ball, Sarah (Brandon) Hampton; eight great grandchildren and one more expected in May. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Grant in 1978; son, David Martens in 2013; brothers: Charles Wright and Robert Wright Jr. A memorial service will be held on Friday, December 29, 2017 at 11 AM at the Kalamo United Methodist Church with Rev. Jerry Bukoski officiating. The family will receive friends on Thursday from 4-7 PM at the Burkhead-Green-Kilgo Funeral Home, Charlotte. Interment will take place at Kalamo Hillside Cemetery.
