Anthony Lane Schmidt, peacefully passed away in the early hours of October 4, 2019, with his family by his side. Our dear son was born to us, Jon and Phyllis Schmidt, on January 29, 1986, in Alma, Michigan. His first nine years of childhood were spent in Gratiot County where he began his education at Countryside Christian School. On August 13, 1995, we as a family moved to Arthur, Illinois, where he finished school. He started his first job in a local cabinet shop and from there, moved on to the construction business where he found his talent. At the age of 14, he gave his heart to the Lord and was baptized on February 11, 2000, into the Church of God in Christ Mennonite by Minister Chester Koehn. In 2008, our family moved back to Michigan where Anthony continued to find work in construction. Over the next number of years, he worked in carpentry, masonry, building tiny homes, mini barns, and various other things. He always put his heart into whatever he did and had good work ethics. During this time, he moved to California where he made many more lasting friendships. Anthony will always be remembered by his brutal honesty and candid sense of humor. He also showed a very special love for his nieces and nephew. He faced many sorrows and disappointments in his life. On September 16, 2016 he was diagnosed with stage 5 melanoma. For the next two years he faced several surgeries and tried different treatments while still being able to live a fairly normal life. In September of 2018 he suffered a severe headache with stroke-like symptoms. He was taken to Enloe Medical Center where it was confirmed that his cancer had returned as a bleeding tumor in his brain. After surgery, Anthony continued to recover better than the doctors anticipated. Looking back at that time, Anthony felt like God had spared his life. This was the turning point that brought him to reconsecrating his life to the Lord. He testified to a peace and joy unlike he had previously known. This caused him to personally share a concern with those in need of a Savior. His desire was that they all could find true peace and happiness like he had found. We watched as this new found relationship with God carried him through the many tests that his illness brought with the necessity of full care. Although we prayed for a miracle of healing, God gave him the miracle of Grace to accept his physical limitations with minimal pain. Anthony so much appreciated all the people that took the time to visit and care for him. We are especially grateful to the Enloe Hospice workers for the excellent care and compassion shown to Anthony and the family Left to cherish fond memories are, we his parents, Jon and Phyllis Schmidt, of Middleton Michigan; one sister, Holly and Matthew Lima, of Glenn California; two brothers: Landon and Mirtha Schmidt, of Middleton Michigan, Ross and Natalie Schmidt, of Ithaca Michigan; three nieces, Teyah Lima 4 years, Kimora Schmidt 2 years, Karli Lima (Charlie) 2 years; one nephew, Kyler Lima 5 months; grandfather, Ardis Litwiller; many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.
