Barbara E. Fhaner

Barbara E. Fhaner, age 96, of Marshall, formerly of Charlotte, passed away Friday, December 29, 2017 at Maple Wood Assisted Living, Marshall. She was born September 22, 1921 in Potterville the only child to Fern "Ted" and Ruth (Merrill) Newell. She went on to graduate from Potterville High School and later attended Michigan State University. On July 10, 1942 she married Charles H. Fhaner. Barb was a life long member of First Baptist Church, Charlotte. Both her and Charles were very active in the church. Barb retired from Charlotte Public Schools where she worked as a secretary. In her earlier years she also worked at the Charlotte Shopping Guide. She enjoyed quilting, painting, and writing. Barb is survived by her children: David (Susan) Fhaner of Marshall, Susan (Art) Merlano of Macomb, Rosalie (David) Welch of Battle Creek, Michael (Whitney) Fhaner of East Lansing; 13 grandchildren; and 15 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Charles; and numerous cousins. Funeral services for Barb will be held on Thursday, January 4, 2018 at 1 PM at the Burkhead-Green-Kilgo Funeral Home, Charlotte. The family will receive friends on Thursday from 11AM-1 PM at the funeral home. Interment will take place at Maple Hill Cemetery, Charlotte.
