Betty Joan (Stoner) Hibner Wesenberg was born March 13, 1936 in Alma, Michigan to Harry Sr and Bertha (Peters) Stoner. She quietly passed away in the early morning hours of December 5, 2022.
Mom received her education in Alma, Michigan. At the age of 13 she accepted the Lord Jesus into her heart and was baptized into the Church of God in Christ, Mennonite on February 23, 1949, by Min. Harry Wenger. (Her second husband was baptized on the same date.) She remained committed to these vows until the end. Her simple, trusting faith and her love for the church were an inspiration.
She became the bride of Clifford K. Hibner on April 5, 1953. To this union were born four sons and one daughter. They shared the joys and sorrows of life for 56 years until Dad’s passing.
Mom worked for a number of years at the Alma Hospital lab. Later she delivered the Morning Sun newspaper. She was a dedicated carrier and made many friends on her route.
Mom also had a huge garden and loved raising flowers. She was hospitable and enjoyed serving her guests. Mom was kind and laughed easily. She dearly loved her family and her grandchildren brought her much joy. She was happy with the simple things of life and appreciative of others’ kindness to her. Christmas was a special time of year for her.
After Dad’s death, Mom found living alone difficult. She found companionship and happiness when she married Verle Wesenberg on March 6, 2011. They enjoyed nearly eight years together until his passing.
As Mom’s health was failing, she moved to Maple View Retirement Community a little over a year ago. Mom and we as a family really appreciated the excellent care she received there.
Those left to cherish her memory are her children, Galen Hibner of Ithaca, Michigan, Terry and Joan Hibner of Fountain Run, Kentucky, Garold and Sonya Hibner of Fountain Run, Kentucky, Pearl and Lyn Toews of Middleton, Michigan, Harlan and Anita Hibner of Ithaca, Michigan; 20 grandchildren; 47 great grandchildren; sister-in-law, Connie Stoner of Ithaca, Michigan; and many special nieces and nephews.
Preceding her in death are both of her husbands, parents, parents-in-law, three brothers, three sisters, five sisters-in-law, and six brothers-in-law.
