Carla Diane Dunning

Carla Diane (Farrier) Dunning, of Charlotte, MI, age 89, died peacefully on July 29, 2016 at Hope Landing Assisted Living. Carla was born August 31, 1926 to Bert and Lucy Irene (Wight) Farrier. After graduating from Charlotte High School, she married Edward VanBergen Dunning on January 25, 1946. They were married for 67 wonderful years. Carla worked for Streck’s Insurance until starting a family in 1948. In later years she worked at the Eaton County Register of Deeds Office and the Charlotte Shopping Guide. Carla thoroughly enjoyed being with family. Every Tuesday was called ‘Clan Day’, a time to gather with her mother, four sisters, nieces and nephews. Her home was a hub for all kinds of gatherings. For over 69 years she enjoyed decorating and entertaining in their home at 423 S. Sheldon Street. Her children, Paul and Nanette, grew up in a house filled with love. Carla was a creative person, liked sewing and doing crafts. She was a Boy Scout Leader and a CampFire Girl Leader. She enjoyed researching the family tree and finding a good bargain at garage sales. Carla especially loved music and dancing the night away with Ed. Carla was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and son Paul Dunning; her sisters Nancy (Harold) Rose, Hester (Duane) Tuckey and Marcia (Leroy) Miller. She is survived by her sister Sharon (Raymond) Ruthruff of Charlotte, daughter Nanette (Gerald) Podany of Charlotte, grandchildren, Aaron (Christine) Dunning of Northville, OH, Aimee (Kenny) Smith of Louisville, KY, Jeremy (Wendy) Podany of Fort Collins, CO and Kate (Donald) Jamison of Wilkesboro, NC; Great Grandchildren Mya Dunning, Adrienne, Valerie, Joshua and Meredith Podany. Daughter-in-law Donna (Rick) Schaner of Pentwater, many nieces and nephews. Private family services will be held August 6, 2016 at Maple Hill Cemetery Chapel.
