Catherine L. Spears

Catherine L. Spears of Charlotte passed away peacefully June 15, 2012 after a short illness. Catherine was born January 22, 1929 in Lansing the daughter of Richard and Lois (Faul) O’Brien. She graduated from Dimondale High School and worked for Auto Owners Insurance Company. She married Fred C. Spears, Sr. in 1951 and raised 4 children. She worked for the St. Mary’s Rectory for many years as a secretary and for the St. Mary’s School as a bus driver and later worked at Carl’s Market in Nashville. Catherine and Fred enjoyed many years of entertaining family, friends and acquaintances on their farm near Vermontville. She is survived by her children, Carolyn (David) Lindberg, Fred (Kathy) Spears, Jr., Kent (Jane) Spears and Mary (Tom) Douma and grandchildren, Mariah (David) DeYoung, Manda (Jason) Powell, Jane Spears, Dawn (Kurt) Fairfield, Chad (Mandy) Spears, Kate (Brian) Rumsey, Kevin Spears, Jeffery Spears, David Douma and Luke Douma and 6 great grandchildren, Nikita and Rebecca Fairfield, Wyatt and Carlee Spears, Rian and Bryce Rumsey. Sisters-in-law, Geri O’Brien and Audrey O’Brien, brother, Charles (Judy) O’Brien, sister, Janet (Gary) Jensen and brother, Dan (Theresa) O’Brien and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Fred C. Spears, Sr. in 1993, and brothers, George and Larry O’Brien. Memorial services will be held at 11:00 A. M. Tuesday, June 19, 2012 at the Burkhead-Green Funeral Home, Charlotte with Rev. Fr. Francis Mossholder officiating. Visitation will be held from 6-9 P.M. Monday with the Rosary being prayed at 6:00 PM. Visitation also on Tuesday from 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM just before services.
