Doreen Wilson
July 14, 1933 — March 5, 2023
Doreen Penner Wilson was born July 14, 1933 to Aaron and Elsie (Toews) Penner in Manitoba, Canada. She peacefully passed away in the early morning hours of March 05, 2023 at Maple View Retirement Community at Ithaca, Michigan, reaching 89 years.
She grew up in the St. Anne, Manitoba area in a family of eleven children. Her family moved to St. Marys, Ontario in 1961. Doreen was converted in her youth years and baptized into the Church of God in Christ, Mennonite. Her faith was always very precious to her. She enjoyed visiting with family and friends and loved to travel.
On August 9, 1970, she married our father, Emery Wilson at St. Marys, Ontario. They made their home at Ithaca, Michigan, and spent eighteen years together before he passed away on October 12, 1988. She continued to reside in the Ithaca area and spent the last ten years of her life living at Maple View where she was loved by many.
She is survived by her step children Charlene and Terry Loos (Ithaca, MI), Elvis and Myrna Wilson (Montezuma, KS), Viola and Jeff Doyle (Ithaca, MI), and Nathan and Sherry Wilson (Perrinton, MI), her siblings Luanna Thiessen, Bertha Klassen, Hilda Vanderhoek, Gladwin Penner, John Penner, Fred Penner, Dave Penner, Bert Penner, and Norman Penner, as well as thirteen grandchildren, thirty-four great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband Emery, her parents, and her brother Gordon.
Visitation will be held at the Maple View Retirement Community Chapel on Thursday, March 9, 2023, from 2:00 PM – 4:00 PM, and also at the Newark Mennonite Church on Thursday, March 9, 2023, from 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM. The funeral service will be held on Friday, March 10, 2023, at 10:30 AM at the Newark Mennonite Church, 3446 S Alger Rd., Ithaca, Michigan, with Deacon Rustin Wilson, Minister Keith Litwiller, and Minister Darin Litwiller officiating. Interment will follow at the Hayes Road Cemetery in rural Newark Township.
