Dr. Douglas Tripp Holden, passed away peacefully at his home on Saturday, August 22, 2020. He was born October 20, 1936, in Battle Creek the son of Max W. and Gladys D. (Wells) Holden. Dr. Holden was a great proponent of education. He was educated at the University of Michigan where he received his B.A., then went on to study at Duke University and Southern Methodist University and received his B.D. and Graduate Studies, and finally to the University of St. Andrews, St. Andrews, Scotland where he earned his Ph.D. Dr. Holden has had extensive academic experience in teaching and administration at Florida Southern College, Andrew College, Bethune-Cookman University, Ohio University, the University of Kentucky, and Marshall University. Dr. Holden was also an Elder in the United Methodist Church. His work with the Church and Missions has been wide and varied. He has served or assisted some thirty Churches including Methodist, Presbyterian, Congregational, and the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ). In the area of Missions, he has led teams to the Bahamas, Costa Rica, Nicaragua, and Guatemala. He was also an accomplished author and devoted servant of his Lord and Savior. Dr. Holden is survived by his adopted son, Breno Eduardo Melo De Oliveira of Central America; brother, Max W. Holden of Traverse City; and numerous friends. A private burial will take place at Maple Hill Cemetery next to his beloved parents.
