Edward James Bernheisel, born November 2, 1943, in Lawrence, Michigan, to James and Mable (Westfall) Bernheisel, died Sunday, August 11, 2019, surrounded by family and friends. Edward chose a life in the Navy, joining in January 1962 retiring in September 1988. He was proud of serving all those years and never being "on a boat" or overseas. Edward met and married Barbara Lynn "Teddy" Tedone in May 1965. Married not quite 31 years, they had two daughters, Irene Lynn and Marlana Sue Bernheisel. He loved his family back in Michigan and over his Navy career, spent much time on the road traveling from wherever he was stationed back to Michigan to see the many relatives here. His wife Barbaras family was back in New York City where much to her parents dismay, he would not leave the Navy to become a New York City policeman or fireman. Edward was preceded in death by his first wife, Barbara Lynn "Teddy" Tedone Bernheisel; father James; his daughter, Irene; mother, Mable; brothers: Arthur and Walter; and sister, Carol Ann. He is survived by his brother, Raymond Bernheisel of Nashville, Michigan; daughter, Marlana Sue Bernheisel, of Charlotte, Michigan. He found another love after Teddy, with his wife of 17 years (not 16, Jeannie) with Marilyn Jean (Cole) Bernheisel. With Jeannie, he gained three more children. Troy Douglas Sundermann of Pleasant Lake, Michigan, Jason Dean and Debbie Sundermann of Springport, Michigan and Heather and Paul Blonsky of Las Vegas, Nevada; grandchildren: Ciara, Jacob, Adisyn, and Zoey; and many nieces, nephews and cousins too numerous to mention. Honorary pallbearers will include Steve Spack, Patrick, Robert, Raymond and James Bernheisel, Troy and Jason Sundermann. The family would like to thank, for their support and vigilance, Jenna Macdonald, Brandy Williams, Neal and Mary Jo Mathisen, Valerie Marsh, Theresa Moy-Ojibway, Sherri Richards, Steve Spack, Raymond, Patrick and Robert Bernheisel, Charlotte and Terry Hicks, Jason and Troy Sundermann.
