Edward Vanbergen Dunning

Edward VanBergen Dunning, age 86, of Charlotte, MI, died Saturday, August 24. He was born May 18, 1927 in Charlotte to Noel and Lida (Kimmer) Dunning. He graduated from Charlotte High School. He married his high school sweetheart, Carla Farrier on January 25, 1946. Edward was stationed in Germany during WWII and returned to Charlotte to raise his family. He retired from AE/Hoover in 1985 and then Wildern’s Drug Store in 1997. He was a volunteer Charlotte Fireman for over 40 years and enjoyed going to the Fire Department for coffee twice a day after he retired from the department. Edward was an active Mason and Shriner and was a volunteer for Friends of the Maple Hill Cemetery and the Eaton County Genealogical Society. He enjoyed woodworking and could fix most anything. Edward was preceded in death by his parents, his son, Paul Dunning, brothers, John Dunning and William Dunning. He is survived by: his wife of 67 years, Carla; daughter, Nanette (Gerald) Podany; daughter-in-law, Donna (Dunning) (Rick) Schaner; grandchildren, Aaron (Christine) Dunning of Sagamore Hills, OH, Aimee (Kenneth) Smith of Louisville, KY, Jeremy (Wendy) Podany of Ft. Collins, CO and Kate (Donald) Jamison of Virginia Beach, VA.; Great grandchildren, Mya Dunning, Adrienne, Valerie, Joshua and Meredith Podany; brother, Robert Dunning of Florida and sister, Rose (John) Gardner of Charlotte and many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A. M. Friday, August 30, 2013 at the Burkhead-Green Funeral Home, 206 W. Lawrence Ave. Charlotte, MI. Visitation with the family receiving friends will be held on Thursday, August 29th from 6-8 P.M. and on Friday August 30th for one hour before the service at the Funeral Home.
