Gloria L Dirks Profile Photo

Our beloved mother and grandmother, Gloria Lee Johnson Dirks, was born to Benjamin & Lillian (Litwiller) Johnson on April 27, 1930, near Middleton, Michigan. Mom enjoyed a happy childhood on the small family farm on Hayes Road along with her three sisters and one brother. She gave her heart to the Lord and was baptized on Oct. 21,1945 by Minister Ervin Harms at Harrison, Michigan. Mom was faithful to her God and her vows all her life.

Our mother married our father, Gerhard Dirks, Jr. of Greensburg, Kansas on Oct. 30, 1949. Their home was blessed with three sons and one daughter. They shared 57 happy years of marriage until Dad passed away in October of 2006. Soon thereafter she moved to Idaho to be near her family.

Mom loved the outdoors and was known for her beautiful yard and flowers. She was a gourmet cook and many of her friends and family had the enjoyment of her hospitality. Our parents were privileged to serve as missionaries in Mexico. They also spent shorter times of service in Guatemala, Mexico, and Albuquerque. These were some of the most happy, rewarding times of their lives.

Family was very important to Mom. She carried a concern for her children and grandchildren and she prayed often for us.

Mom peacefully passed away on a beautiful spring Sunday morning May 7, 2023, at Canyon Retirement Community, Twin Falls, Idaho. We as a family appreciate the loving care she received there.

Those left to cherish her memory are three sons; Gery and Lawanda, Saguache, Colorado; Kevin and Kathy, Albuquerque, New Mexico; Perry and Rita, Murtaugh, Idaho; one daughter, Leslie and Glen Toews, Faunsdale, Alabama; 18 grandchildren, 36 great grandchildren; one sister, Dorothy Unruh, Greensburg, Kansas; one sister-in-law, Aimee Dirks, Greensburg, Kansas; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Gerhard, her parents, two sisters, and one brother.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, May 15, 2023, at 10:30 A.M. at the Wildwood Mennonite Church with Ministers Jeff Litwiller, Michael Litwiller, Avery Peters, and Nicholas Dirks officiating. The family will recieve friends on Sunday from 6 P.M. to 8 P.M. at the church. Burial will take place in the church cemetery.
