Helen June Stults of Charlotte, MI, age 88, passed away Tuesday, Dec. 29, 2015 at the Eaton County Health and Rehabilitation Services in Charlotte after an extended illness. June was born September 8, 1927 in Lansing, MI the daughter of Gara and Ellen Kathryn (Murdick) Smuts and had lived most of her life in the Charlotte area. She was a 1945 Graduate of Charlotte High School, had worked as a telephone operator for Mich. Bell Telephone Co. in Charlotte, was a member of the South Side Mothers Club, had served as Leader for the Campfire Girls and the Cub Scouts and had been active in her children’s school activities. She was a member of the First Congregational Church UCC and it’s Mary Martha Circle, was a Hayes-Green-Beach Hospital Volunteer, was a member of the American Legion and V. F. W. Auxiliaries and enjoyed spending summers at Pleasure Point. Surviving are: her husband of 68 years, Charles R. “Pete” Stults; 5 children, Karen (Michael) Shepard, Jack (Kimberly) Stults, Randy Stults, Brian Stults and Jill Stults; 8 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren; her brother, Harold (Phyllis) Smuts; numerous nieces and nephews and special niece, Regina (James) Lemmon. She was preceded in death by her parents. Memorial services will be held at 10:00 AM Wednesday, Jan. 6, 2016 at the Burkhead-Green Funeral Home in Charlotte with Rev. Philip Hobson officiating. Visitation will be held from 2-4 & 6-8 PM Tuesday Jan. 5, 2016 at the Funeral Home. Inurnment will be in the Fort Custer National Cemetery at Augusta, MI. Memorial contributions may go to the American Cancer Society, the Eaton County Health & Rehabilitation Services palliative care or the First Congregational Church UCC. www.burkhead-greenfuneralhome.com.
