Jacob Van Gelder, age 96 of Charlotte, MI, died Wednesday, April 11, 2012 at the Sparrow Hospital in Lansing. Jake was born June 6, 1915 in Grand Rapids, MI the son of Jacob and Nellie (Carveth) Van Gelder and was a life resident of the Eaton County area. He served in the U. S. Army during World War Two, for many years served as a Deputy Sheriff for the Eaton County Sheriff’s Department and was also a Watchmaker. Surviving are: 3 children, Yvonne French of Battle Creek, Jacob (Dawn) Van Gelder, Jr. of Charlotte and Gregory (Jackie) Van Gelder of Bellevue; 3 grandchildren, Jamie French, Jesse French and Cameron Van Gelder; step granddaughter, Jennifer Brooks and 2 great grandchildren, Leah French and Cohen French. He was preceded in death by wives, Margaret (Cooper) and Geraldine (Kuehn); grandson, Gregory Van Gelder II; daughter-in-law, Janice (Pinch) Van Gelder; 2 brothers, Gordon 3 sisters, Annie, Nellie & Jewell and adoptive aunt, Esther Williams. There will be no visitation. Military graveside services will be held at 1:00 P. M. Monday, April 16, 2012 at the Fort Custer National Cemetery, Augusta, Michigan.
