James H. Workman, age 90 of Charlotte, MI, died Thursday, June 7, 2012 at the Eaton Community Palliative Care. Jim was born May 14, 1922 in Essex, Ontario, Canada the son of Inos H. and Florence V. (Lickman) Workman and had been a Charlotte resident for 49 years coming from Grand Ledge, MI. He was a 1942 Graduate of Perry (Mich) High School and had been employed as a Meatcutter for 17 years with the Kroger Co. and later was a Meat Inspector for the State of Michigan for 10 years from where he retired in 1984. He was an active member of the First Lutheran Church, was a former member of the Charlotte Kiwanis Club, served with the Boy Scouts of America, was a member of the Tri-County Iris Club and had been a member of the Charlotte Lodge #120 F. & A. M. He was instrumental in the founding or the Charlotte Community Dinners. Surviving are: his wife of 60 years, Vernal (Atwell) Workman; two sons, James M. (Kim) Workman of Eaton Rapids and Roger H. (Marci Yoder) Workman of Lake Odessa; two daughters, Mary Joyce Workman of Charlotte and Cheryl (Robert) White of Coldwater; 7 grandchildren; 26 great grandchildren; 1 great great grandchild; two brothers, Alford Workman of PA and Thomas Workman of Webberville and one sister, Joan Himelick of TX. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Anita Warren, grandson, Douglas Workman, granddaughter, Sara Warren, great grandson, Christopher Warren, 3 brothers and 3 sisters. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A. M. Wednesday, June 13, 2012 at the First Lutheran Church, 550 E. Shepherd St. in Charlotte with Pastor Timothy Olson officiating. Visitation will be held from 6-8 P.M. Tuesday at the Burkhead-Green Funeral Home in Charlotte and on Wednesday from 10:00 A. M. until time of services at the Church. In lieu of flowers, Memorial contributions may go to the First Lutheran Church, Eaton Community Palliative Care or to the Charlotte Community Dinners.
