Jerrold Emerson

Jerrold C. Emerson, age 73 of Charlotte, MI, died Saturday, Feb. 2, 2013 at the Sparrow Hospital in Lansing. Jerry was born Feb. 15, 1939 in Charlotte, MI the son of Robert L. and Beulah (Thornton) Emerson and had lived most of his life in Eaton County. He joined the U. S. Navy at an early age and served for 32 years in the regular Navy and the Naval Reserve. He was employed in Skilled Trades with Owens-Illinois Glass Co. from where he retired after 31 years of service. After retirement from O-I he was employed for many years at Davis Pontiac of Charlotte. He was a member of the Charlotte Eagles and the Charlotte Church of Christ. He was an accomplished musician and singer and had performed with several bands in the area. He is survived by: 3 daughters, Debbie (Robert Vitale) Eno of Lansing, Dawn (David) Wing of Charlotte and Drema Emerson of Vermontville; 6 grandchildren, Eric, Eron, Matthew, Mandy, Meghan and Branden; 3 great grandchildren, Peyton, Nolan and Baley; 2 sisters, Shirley Moore of Torrington, Wyoming and Janetta (Bill) Shilling of Olivet; brother, Lee (Joan) Emerson of Olivet and sister-in-law, Carol Emerson of Charlotte. He was preceded in death by his wife of 53 years, RoseAnn (Flath) Emerson in March of 2012; brother, LaWayne Emerson; father, Robert Emerson; mother, Beulah Dostie and step-father, Maurice Dostie. At Jerry’s request, cremation has taken place. Combined Memorial Services with those of his wife, Rose Ann Emerson will be held at 11:00 A. M. Saturday, March 9, 2013 at the Burkhead-Green Funeral Home in Charlotte with Pastor John Bailey officiating. Visitation will be held on Saturday from 10:00 A. M. until time of Memorial Services. In Lieu of flowers. memorial contributions may go to the Eaton County Humane Society, St. Judes Children’s Hospital or to Eaton Community Palliative Care.
