Lillian Joan Peachey was born to John and Susie (Unruh) Unruh on October 10, 1930, in Gray County, Montezuma, Kansas. Mom crossed over to her eternal reward on February 9, 2021, at the age of ninety years. In 1936, she together with her parents and siblings moved to Ithaca, Michigan. It was here that she received her education through grade 8 in a country school. At the age of thirteen she responded the Lord’s call to repentance and was baptized into the Church of God in Christ, Mennonite by Minister Glenn Litwiller. After working in a shoe factory for several years she went to Montezuma to work at Bethel Home as a nurse-aide. On August 19, 1960, she married Eli Peachey of Belleville, Pennsylvania. Dad was called to 1-W Service in 1961. They spent two years working at the state farm in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. This union was blessed with two children, Marlin and Irene. After Dad’s service was completed, they moved back to the Belleville area and were reunited with Church family again. She enjoyed listening to the experiences of those who found the Lord and embraced the faith. She formed lasting friendships there. In 2001, she chose to move back to Michigan where she grew up. Her children and grandchildren were dear to her. She prayed often that they would be true and faithful to their commitments. We remember her encouraging phone calls. In 2013, mom reconsecrated her life to God and her Bible became very precious to her. Though she encountered obstacles in her life, she found God’s grace sufficient. One of her favorite verses was, “Be Still and Know that I am God,” Psalms 46:10. She endeavored to serve the Lord faithfully and to keep her life current with the Lord. With the passing of Dad and her sister, the Lord drew close and her interest turned to singing. She was a lover of song. In 2013, mom moved to Maple View Assisted Living. She was very grateful for the Christian atmosphere and loving care given her. She longed to go home to meet her Savior and loved ones gone before. Those left to hold her in their memories are: son, Marlin and wife Lorinda Peachey of Belleville, PA; daughter, Irene and husband Dale Lawson of Parrish, Florida; four grandchildren; one brother, Glenn and wife Barb Unruh of Ithaca, Michigan; and many nieces, nephews, and friends. Funeral services will be held on Friday, February 12, 2021, at 10:30 A.M. at the Newark Mennonite Church with Ministers Darin Litwiller, Keith Litwiller, and Amos Peachey officiating. The family will receive friends on Thursday from 3 P.M. to 5 P.M. at the Wildwood Mennonite Church. Burial will take place at Hayes Road Cemetery. Those desiring, may make contributions in Joan’s memory to Maple View Assisted Living, 4396 S. Luce Road, Ithaca, MI 48842.
