John A. Dewey age 74 of Charlotte died Wed. April 20, 2011 at the Eaton Community Hospice House in Charlotte. John was born Jan. 19, 1937 in Charlotte the son of Scott and Pauline (Swift) Dewey and was a lifelong Charlotte resident. He was a 1954 Graduate of Charlotte High School, was employed as a Gas Linesman for Consumers Power Co. with 39 years of service, had been a Charlotte Volunteer Fireman for 39 years and had been a member of the First Congregational Church since 1977. He was a member of the Eaton County Buck Club, a member of the Eaton County Amateur Radio Club from 1963 until the present and through the radio work assisted as a Civil Defense worker. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Verdetta (Mahon) Dewey; Daughters, Paula (Chad) Chadderdon and Janelle Mike) Thomas; Son, Scott (Charmayne) Dewey; Grandchildren, Jeremiah, Hannah, Melisa, Evan, Rhett, Chris, Jonathan, Ali, Tyler, Tessa, Philip, Holly & Matthew; great grandson, Tyler; numerous nieces and nephews plus big extended families. He was preceded in death by his mother, Pauline, father, Scott, brother Tom and son, Ramey. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A. M. Saturday, April 23, 2011 at the First Congregational Church in Charlotte (at the corner of Lawrence and Bostwick) with Rev. Philip Hobson officiating. Interment in the Needmore Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Friday from 2-4 & 6-8 P.M. at the Burkhead-Green Funeral Home and on Saturday from 10:00 A.M. until time of services at the Church. In lieu of flowers, please donate to First Congregational Church, Charlotte Volunteer Fire Department, Eaton Community Hospice House or Eaton Area Senior Center.
