Joyce W. Sergent

Joyce Willine Banks-Sergent of Charlotte, MI, passed from this earth and entered heaven on Sunday, April 25, 2021. Mrs. Sergent was born in Hastings, MI, to Robert “Bob” and Lell Victoria “Vicky” (Valondry) Banks. She married Dennis Sergent in Lansing, MI, and they lived in the Lansing area most of their lives. Joyce graduated from Maple Valley High School with the Class of ‘65, before moving to Lansing. She worked in State Government with the Department of Natural Resources, Social Services, and Treasury before retiring in 2004. Joyce, a “coal miner’s daughter,” will be remembered as a woman of tremendous faith, a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and delightful friend. She loved to laugh and entertain with her great sense of humor. Above all else in the world, she loved her daughter, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and never wanted to be anywhere but with them. Mrs. Sergent was preceded in death by her parents, a brother, Bobby, in 1955, and a sister, Elsie, in 1996. She is survived by her loving husband, Dennis; beloved daughter, Kristine (Matt) Malaski of Nashville, TN; 3 grandchildren: Matthew (Bethany) Malaski of Mooresville, NC, Bryant (Michelle) Malaski of Cumming, GA, and Miss Ashley Malaski of Glendale, CA; 2 great grandchildren: Thomas James Malaski and Ellie Marie Malaski. Further, she is survived by three sisters: Jayne (Charley) Scott of Beaulaville, NC, Elizabeth “Libby” (Jack) Hughes of Yellville, AK; and Kathy (Gary) Morales of Potterville, MI, as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, and other dear family and friends. Funeral service will be held Friday, April 30, 2021, at 11 A.M. at First Lutheran Church of Charlotte with Rev. Jim Eggert and Rev. Mark Gawura officiating. For those desiring to view the service on their computer or mobile device the service will be live-streamed at https://vimeo.com/flccharlotte The family will receive friends on Thursday from 5 P.M. to 8 P.M. at the Burkhead-Green-Kilgo Funeral Home and one hour prior to the service at the church on Friday.
