Julia J. Weaver, age 95, of Charlotte passed away Tuesday, October 24, 2017 at Hope Landing in Charlotte. She was born June 24, 1922 in Charlotte the daughter of Paul and Lenore (Edmond) Grier. On June 20, 1947 she married the love of her life Harold S. Weaver. Julia was a person who was devoted to her family, community and God. She was a dedicated wife helping Harold on the farm and providing loving support to her siblings and her many nephews and nieces. In 1955 Julia began volunteering at Hayes Green Beach Hospital. She greeted visitors, guided family members to patient rooms, and assisted clinical departments with errands and more. She has the longest record of volunteer service at HGB with more than 18,000 hours. Additionally Julia raised funds and supported many other organizations such as the American Cancer Society, March of Dimes, Habitat for Humanity and the Salvation Army. She also participates in several food drives and blood drives throughout the year. In 2013 she was presented with the Senior Citizen of the Year Award for service by the Michigan Office of Services to the Aging, Commission on Services to the Aging and Consumers Energy. Julia also spent countless hours serving God through her church community helping with dinners, fundraisers, mentoring young members, welcoming new families to the church and always being a dedicated Christian. After retiring from farming Julia and Harold would travel. They bought a truck and travel trailer and would winter at Harrads Harbor in Alabama. After Harold passed she enjoyed many trips to Washington, Oregon and California to visit her brother-in-law and nieces and nephews. Julia loved gardening and had a green thumb. Family and friends were gifted with some of the most amazing flowers bouquets and baskets of fruits and vegetables. She also was well known for her passion for walking. She has been a dedicated walking partner to many in the Charlotte area. Julia is survived by her nieces and nephews: Bill (Susan) Nelson, of Delton, Linda (Dave) Rulison of Pelkie, Rosemary (John Welch) Grier of Pelkie, Gloria (Bruce) Griffith of Oregon, Sandy (Mitch) McGarvey of Gregory, Katie (Paul Goudreault) Grier of Wisconsin, Patty (Chuck) Rowles of Washington, Brad Anderson of Utah, David Weaver of California, Jeff (Marika)Weaver of Texas, Sandra (Bernie) Blazek of Oregon, Eric Weaver of Oregon, and Scott Weaver of California She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Harold Weaver, siblings, Edman (Ruth) Grier, James (Pauline) Grier, Barbara (Joe) Nelson, Donald (Barbara) Grier, nephews, John Nelson and Chris Weaver. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, October 28, 2017 at 10 AM at the Burkhead-Green-Kilgo Funeral Home with Reverend Gary Wales officiating. Interment will follow at Benton Township Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Friday from 4-7 PM at the funeral home. Those desiring may make contributions in Julias memory to Hayes Green Beach Memorial Hospital.
