Lois A. Podany Charlotte, MI Lois Arleen (Peterson) Podany, 90, died on January 12, 2012. She was born April 29, 1921 in Minneapolis, Minnesota to Ernest and Agnes Trina (Thompson) Peterson. She married George Podany in Minneapolis on June 14, 1945. Lois and George moved to Michigan in 1948, initially to Onekama, and then to Flint in 1949 where their three children were born. While raising three children, Lois was also a violinist in the Flint Symphony Orchestra in the 1950’s. In 1967, they moved to Lansing where Lois was active in her church and also worked as a secretary for the Lansing Public Schools Math Department. In 1976 they moved to Charlotte, where they lived for 34 years. Lois was a member of Lawrence Avenue Methodist Church and sang in the choir for many years. In her later years, she was a volunteer, along with George, at Weymouth and Galewood Elementary Schools in Charlotte. Lois will be remembered for her ready laughter, her love of family and church, her generosity of spirit, being Grandma Lois to many, and her chocolate chip cookies. Lois was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, George, in 2006; her parents; sisters Erna (Peterson) O’Bannon and Merelyn (Peterson) Leaf. She leaves one sister, Shirley (Peterson) Ye; brother-in-law Peter Podany, daughter Nancy (David) Tucker, sons Gerald (Nanette) Podany, and George R. Podany (Penny Sattazahn); five grandchildren, Matthew (Margaret Lloyd) Tucker, Jeremy (Wendy) Podany, Kate (Donald) Jamison, Michelle Hipshire and fiancé Christopher Strange, Eli (Karissa) Canfield; seven great-grandchildren, Maeve and Megan Tucker, Adrienne, Valerie, and Joshua Podany, Alex Strange, and Aryonna Canfield, many nieces and nephews; and many good friends, including Ann Rounds. With great thanks to Hope Landing for their kind care over the past 2 ½ years. Services will be held at the Lawrence Avenue United Methodist Church in Charlotte at 3:00 P.M. Sunday, January 15, 2012 with Rev. Terry Fisher officiating. Interment in the Maple Hill Cemetery, Charlotte. Visitation from 2-4 & 6-8 P.M. Saturday at the Burkhead-Green Funeral Home, Charlotte and from 2:00 P.M. until service time on Sunday at the Church.
