Lowell Edwin Cook Profile Photo

Lowell Edwin Cook, age 88, died January 13, 2018 in Charlotte following a short hospitalization. He was born September 9, 1929 in Belleuve Michigan to Clarence and Martha Cook. He was a member of the 5th generation of the Cook family to live along Butterfield Hwy between Belleuve and Olivet until his move to Kalamo Hwy in Charlotte in August 1951. He was a 1947 graduate of Belleuve High School and married his high school sweetheart Betty Jean Brandt on his 22nd birthday. He and his wife owned and operated Cooks Berry Farm, a u-pick strawberry and blueberry farm. He retired from Eaton Manufacturing in Battle Creek in December 1978 after working 30 years in the machine shop and enjoyed working for Stantons Auctioneering Service after his retirement. Lowell was a lifetime member of the Michigan Trapping Association, a very avid fur trapper and prided himself for being able to outsmart any fox that came near his traps. He was a member of the Bellevue United Methodist Church and enjoyed fishing, playing cards, traveling, telling stories about his boyhood, helping young people reach their full potential and spending time with family, relatives and friends. He will always be known for his keen sense of humor and his warm smile. The family is very grateful to all who made it possible for him to stay in his own home, near his beloved blueberry patch up until his recent illness. He is preceded in death by his wife, Betty Jean (Brandt) Cook in 2014 after 62 years of marriage, infant son Tony Cook, and brothers Norman D. Cook and Garry Lee Cook. Surviving are his daughter Christine (Eric) Larson of Eaton Rapids, son Bryan (Jane) Cook of Freeland and granddaughters Teresa Larson of Louisville, KY, Stacie Larson of Traverse City, Dr. Lindsay (Andrew) Klumpp of Battle Creek and Emily (Parker) Laabs of Northville. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 20, 2018 at 11 AM at the Burkhead-Green-Kilgo Funeral Home, Charlotte. The family will receive friends on Friday from 2-4 PM and 6-8 PM at the funeral home. Interment will take place at Riverside Cemetery, Bellevue. Those desiring may make contributions in Lowells memory to the Eaton Community Palliative Care 2675 S. Cochran Rd., Charlotte, MI 48813 or Bellevue Good Samaritans 122 W.
