Our dear father and grandfather, Lowell Jay Litwiller was born on September 2, 1933, to Emerson & Elizabeth Johnson Litwiller, at Middleton, Michigan. He peacefully passed away on September 27, 2019, at Mapleview Assisted Living, Ithaca, Michigan, reaching the age of 86 years. Dad grew up on a farm. He received his education in country schools. He was converted at the age of 15, and was baptized into the Church of God in Christ, Mennonite, in February of 1948, by Min. Reuben Koehn. He remained faithful to these vows until death. His last words were that he "was ready to go", leaving us with an assurance of his salvation. He was married to Thelma Gearig on March 14, 1954. Shortly after their marriage, they spent two years in 1-W service in Baltimore, Maryland. They shared 49 years of marriage, and five children were born to them. Dad and Mom enjoyed traveling, both in the United States, and Europe. He lived and farmed in the Middleton and Carson City area all his life. They had turned the farm over to family and built a retirement home only 2-1/2 years before Moms death on September 15, 2003. He was left very lonely, and greatly missed his life's companion. He always made time for family devotions. Church attendance and activities were important to Dad. He was a sociable person, who loved his family, giving generously to us as children. We enjoyed several family reunions at various locations. As a result of Parkinsons disease, he moved to the Maple View Assisted Living in 2015. He enjoyed the social activities, the singing and the daily devotional time. He, and we as a family, appreciated the excellent care he received. His life was a testimony of his trust in God and he left us with an example of faithfulness. Left with fond memories are five children: Errol and Dawn Litwiller of Severance, Colorado and two children; Charles of Center, Colorado and Louise Litwiller of Crystal, Michigan and their 5 children; Gail of Carson City, Michigan, Stuart & Annie Litwiller of Murray, Kentucky and 4 children; Laura and Greg Koehn of Carson City and four children; his stepmother, Frieda Litwiller of Montezuma, Kansas; three siblings, Lavonne & Donald Gable of Perrinton, Michigan; Charis & James Toews of Middleton Michigan; Jon & Deb Litwiller of Middleton, Michigan; brother-in-law, Ardis Litwiller of Middleton, Michigan; sister-in-law, Jane & Newell Mininger of Barron Wisconsin. Besides the fifteen grandchildren, he leaves 21 great-grandchildren, many nieces, nephews and friends. He was preceded in death by his wife, his parents, 3 siblings, one grandchild, one great-grandchild and one sister-in-law. Funeral services will be held Monday, September 30, 2019, at 10:30 A.M. at the Mt. Calm Mennonite Church with Ministers Gladwin Koehn, Donald Gable, and Keith Litwiller officiating. The family will receive friends on Sunday from 2 P.M. to 4 P.M. and 6 P.M. to 8 P.M. at the church. Burial will take place at Hayes Road Cemetery. Those desiring, may make contributions in Lowell's honor to Mapleview Assisted Living, 4396 S. Luce Rd., Ithaca, MI 48847.
