Margaret J Shafe

Margaret J. (Day) Shafe of Olivet, MI, age 73 died Saturday, Sept. 8, 2012 at the Lifespan Good Samaritan Hospice Residence in Battle Creek surrounded by her loving family. Margaret was born August 7, 1939 in Charlotte the daughter of Lester and Irene (Talmage) Day and was a life resident of the Olivet area. She was a 1957 Graduate of Olivet High School and had been employed at State Farm Insurance Co. in Marshall retiring in 1999 after 30 years of service. Early on she enjoyed singing with the Sweet Adelines, enjoyed volunteering in the School reading programs, taking part in the Grandkids school activities and enjoyed knitting and sewing. Margaret loved spending time with her family and truly enjoyed all of her grandchildren. She was the best possible grandma, always there for her grandkids; whatever they needed. They all believed anything made by grandma was the best because it was “made with love”. She was very kind hearted and was friends with many. She looked forward to the summer months spent with family at the cabin and holidays filled with family and cookie baking. She spent many hours reading and watching birds and other wildlife. Surviving are: 3 daughters, Cheryl (Kelly) Coplin of Shelbyville, MI, Lori (Chris) Koyl of Olivet and Michelle (Justin) Bowerman of Charlotte; 10 grandchildren, Shawn Coplin, Jeremie Coplin, Alex Coplin, Cassandra Coplin, Kristin (Scott) Romzek, Cameron Starr, Jamie (Chris) Brundage, Tayler Koyl, Brandon Bowerman and Kayla Bowerman; 1 great granddaughter, Addyson Romzek and 2 brothers, Buddy (Sandi) Day and Roger (Sheila) Day both of Olivet. She was preceded in death by: her parents; husband, Thomas F. Shafe in 2007 and daughter, Sandra Starr in 2000. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 P.M. Wednesday, Sept. 12, 2012 at the Burkhead-Green Funeral Home, Charlotte with Rev. Jack Brown officiating. Interment will be in the Bosworth Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Tuesday from 4-8 P.M. at the Funeral Home. Memorial contributions are suggested to the Lifespan Good Samaritan Hospice Residence or the Olivet High School Band.
