Mark Robert Verstrate
February 28, 1959 — December 2, 2023
Mark Robert VerStrate of Lansing, MI (formerly of Tampa, FL and Byron Center MI) passed away on December 2, 2023, at the age of 64. Mark was born on February 28, 1959, in Kent County and was adopted by Robert and Virginia (Cooper) VerStrate. In 1995, he reunited with his biological mother, Betty Polhamus who died in 2021.
Mark grew up in the Byron Center area and enjoyed playing sports. He lived most of his adult life in Florida where he worked in the hospitality and courier fields. He was an avid sports fan, cheering for the Buccaneers, Lightning, Rays, Lions and the Wolverines.
He is survived by his children, Magan (Jason) Eikenberry, Heather (Alex) Hue, Alaina Kreger, Ian VerStrate; two stepchildren, Katie (Brad) Reed and Jordan (Brittany Gray) Smith; grandchildren, Kierien Perales, David Hornstra, Kyleana Perales, Hailey Hue and Henzie Hue; great grandchildren Ares, Emersyn, Makhari and Za’Man. Two sisters, Kathy (Aaron) Cichocki and Susan Polhamus; several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; stepmother, Jesse; sisters, Sharon Leatherwood and Diane Tilma.
