Mary Darlene Griffin

Mary Darlene Griffin, age 81, of Charlotte, passed away peacefully on Monday, August 10, 2020, surrounded by loved ones. She was born November 18, 1938, in Battle Creek the daughter of Leon and Fern (Mitchell) Pierce. On August 1, 1970, Mary married Ion M. Griffin in Olivet. Mary was employed in housekeeping at Olivet College for 27 years, where she touched many hearts and made numerous friends. She enjoyed playing Euchre, Skip-Bo, Phase 10, bowling, and trips to Firekeepers Casino. She and Ion also loved traveling and camping at many local county fairs where they raced their standardbred horses. Mary was a tremendous cook and loved preparing meals for others. She adored her family and loved spending time together. She is survived by her children: Deanna (Phillip) Hebenstreit of Olivet, Daniel Smith of Battle Creek, Daniel Griffin of Missouri, Christine Manthei of Jackson, David (Cindy) Griffin of Missouri, Marty Strong of Charlotte, Dawn Howlett of Charlotte; 25 grandchildren; and numerous great and great great grandchildren. Mary was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Ion in 1998; sister, Martha (Mayn) Cortright; daughters: Susan Smith, Darlene Griffin; and son, Raymond Smith. A graveside service will take place on Friday, August 14, 2020, at 2 P.M. at Bosworth Cemetery in Olivet. The family will receive friends on Thursday from 5 P.M. to 8 P.M. at the Burkhead-Green-Kilgo Funeral Home. Burial will take place at Bosworth Cemetery.
