Mary E. Trgina

Mary Elizabeth Toews Trgina was born to Peter K. and Hattie Peters Toews on October 4, 1938, at North Star, Michigan. She passed away at Woodland Hospice House, Mt. Pleasant, Michigan on October 10, 2022, at the age of eighty-four years.

Mary gave her heart to God and was baptized into the Church of God in Christ, Mennonite, on March 16, 1951, by Min. Glenn Litwiller.

Mary had a happy childhood. Her sister remembers her cheerful personality and many good times growing up together. As a young woman Mary worked at the shoe factory in Ithaca, Michigan where she met her future husband. On June 6, 1965, Mary was joined in marriage to Richard Trgina at Ithaca, Michigan. They shared fifty-seven years together and this union was blessed with two daughters.

Mary was a shy, quiet person who enjoyed sharing her good cooking with her family. When the new Newark Church was being built Richard and Mary spent many hours watching the work progress. They were very enthused and helped where they could.

Mary is survived by her loving husband Richard; two daughters: Brenda and David McRoberts, Midland, Michigan; Melisa and Mark Daniel, Alma, Michigan; four grandchildren and one great-grandchild; four siblings: Ted Toews, Robert and Betty Toews, Kathy and Roger Leatherman, and John and Thelma Toews; and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, two brothers-in-law and two sisters-in-law.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, October 13, 2022, at 11 A.M. at the Newark Mennonite Church with Ministers Darin Litwiller and Michael Litwiller officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will follow at Hayes Road Cemetery.
