Max J. Powers

Max J. Powers of Olivet, Michigan, age 87, passed away on Sunday, August 16, 2015 at his home with his loving family at his side. Max was born Oct. 5, 1927 in Walton Township, Eaton County the son of Bert and Gladys (Jaquette) Powers and was a lifelong resident of Walton Township. He was a lifelong farmer and had also been employed at the Aluminum Extrusions Co. in Charlotte for 27 years. He was a 1944 Graduate of Olivet High School and attended a short course in Agriculture at M. S. U. He was a member of the Brookfield Lodge #439 F. & A. M., was a member of the Eaton County Shrine Club, was a member of the Crank & Throttle Model A Club, the First Congregational Church of Charlotte and was an avid golfer having participated in several local leagues. Max always cared for and enjoyed helping others, loved farming and above all else, he dearly loved his family. Surviving are: his wife of 64 years, Mary Lou (Parr) Powers; four children, Janne (Lynn) Ahlgrim of Charlotte, Julie (David) Bennett of Charlotte, Jeryl (Craig Wedge) Powers, and Maxon (Sara) Powers of Olivet; Eight grandchildren, Jessica (Justin) Ackley, Amy (Lynn) Jewell, Michelle (Dan) Bennett-Siwula, Daniel (Sara Spielman) Bennett, Lynnette (Barry) Gill, Jennifer (Micah) Hankins, Eric (Angela) Powers and Shane (Denise) Powers; 27 great grandchildren and his sister, Arlene (Dan) Powers-Brown. He was preceded in death by 3 grandchildren, Melissa Kunkel, Michael Bennett and Brent Lea and son-in-law, Robert Aardema. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Thursday, August 20, 2015 at the Burkhead-Green Funeral Home in Charlotte with Rev. Philip Hobson and Brookfield Lodge # 439 F. & A. M. officiating. Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 2-4 & 6-8 PM at the Funeral Home. Interment will be in the Bosworth Cemetery, Olivet. Memorial contributions may go to the Shriners Hospitals for Children.
