Max P. Denton, 75, of Charlotte, passed away peacefully on March 8, 2016 at Eaton Community Palliative Care with his loving wife and daughter by his side. Max was born December 10, 1940 in Spring City, Tennessee the son of Harmon and Wilma (Purser) Denton. Max was a true patriot, he served in the Michigan National Guard and attained the rank of Staff Sergeant prior to retirement. During his time in the Michigan National Guard Max worked as a federal technician at the Combined Support Maintenance Shop in Lansing, Michigan. He retired from both organizations in 1990 with over 29 years of service. Max enjoyed working with his hands and during his early years he owned and operated a canvas and upholstery repair business. After his retirement he enjoyed working at Char Lanes in support of one of his favorite hobbies, bowling. He was a longtime member of the American Legion Post No. 42 where he held multiple positions including commander and, most recently, adjutant. His strong sense of patriotism was apparent through his countless hours of volunteerism. Max is survived by his wife of 54 years, Julia Denton; daughter Tina (Tony) Brandt of Charlotte, son James Denton of Potterville; grandchildren, Brianna (James) Carver of Dewitt, Alexandria Denton of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Rebecca Denton of Grandville, Michigan: great grandchildren, MacKenzie and Eliza Carver of Dewitt; brothers, Kermit (Betty) Denton of Bellevue and Joe Denton of Cincinnati, Ohio; as well as several nieces and nephews. Max was preceded in death by his parents Harmon and Wilma Denton. Visitation will be held on Monday, March 14 from 10:30 AM to 12:30 PM at Burkhead-Green Funeral Home in Charlotte followed by military graveside services and interment at 2:00 PM at Fort Custer National Cemetery at Augusta, Michigan.
