Phillip Martin Hakenjos, a caring, but strong willed, husband, father, and friend, died unexpectedly on Monday, March 10, 2025. Phillip, 63, of Vermontville, was born on December 14, 1961, in Lansing, the son of Martin and Sally (Smith) Hakenjos. He was a lifelong learner and continued to educate himself well beyond his school years. Recently, his children found out that Phillip at one point earned a certificate as a bartender. He also enjoyed watching the History Channel. Phillip worked as a Corrections Officer for the Ionia Correctional Faciality for 33 years until his retirement in 2021. Many will remember his signature trademark FTMDOC that he established in recent years.
On May 27, 2016, Phillip married Zenaida Martinez. Hobbies that he enjoyed included, drinking a cold beer while listening to music, gardening, reading, watching horror films, cooking, and most importantly spending time with his family.
Phillip is survived by his wife, Zenaida; children, Anastasia (Quentin) Lesage, Gretchen (Tom Coss) Hakenjos, Tecumseh Hakenjos, and Kenneth Martinez; his beloved fur babies; and several close friends.
He was predeceased by his parents.
In keeping with Phillip’s wishes cremation has taken place and no services will be held.
