Richard A. Rann Charlotte, Mich. Brigadier General, retired, United States Air Force. Age 90 passed away Thursday, Oct. 9, 2014 after a short illness. Richard Rann was born October 22, 1923 in Perry Township of Shiawassee County the son of Albert W. and Bessie (Nichols) Rann. Brigadier General Richard A. Rann was appointed 30 March 1975 by Major General Johnston the Adjutant General of Michigan to be Assistant Adjutant General for Air in the Michigan National Guard and Deputy Director of the Department of Military Affairs effective 30 March 1975. Rann’s military service spanned 40 years. He joined the Royal Canadian Air Force in 1941 and transferred to the USAF in 1943, seeing action in England and Europe. His military decorations include the Silver Star, Distinguished Flying Cross w/1 OLC, Air medal w/9 OLC, Purple Heart, Presidential Unit Citation, Outstanding Unit Award, American Campaign Medal, European-African-Middle East Campaign medal w/1 Silver Star, World War II Victory Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Armed Forces Reserve Medal, Small Arms Expert Marksmanship Ribbon. Rann, who graduated from Michigan State University as a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine in 1950, was Commander of the 127th Tactical Fighter Wing at Selfridge Air National Guard Base, Mount Clemens, until his appointment as Assistant Adjutant General for Air. Surviving are: his wife, Shirley (Halsey) Rann; Children, Tama (Gary) Jesky, Tom (Kathy) Rann, Renae (Steve) Bartlett and Jennifer Horn; 12 grandchildren and great grandchildren. Funeral services with military honors will be held at 11:00 AM Tuesday, Oct. 14, 2014 at the First Congregational Church, 106 S. Bostwick St. in Charlotte with Rev. Tom Jones and the Air Force Honor Guard officiating. Visitation will be held on Monday from 2-4 & 6-8 PM at the Burkhead-Green Funeral Home, 206 W. Lawrence Ave. in Charlotte and on Tuesday from 10-11 AM at the church prior to the services. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may go to the Eaton Community Palliative Care, 2675 S.
