Richard Bradley Vahs passed away on Wednesday, September 10, 2014. He was born March 3, 1937, to the late Ralph C. and Betty (Bradley) Vahs in Charlotte. Richard spent his entire life in the Olivet area, graduating form Olivet High School in 1955, and attending Olivet College. He worked in the family Standard Oil Service Station in Olivet, and later worked for Olivet Community Schools in the Grounds Department. In 1956 he married his wife of 47 years, Letty June Browning who preceded him in death on September 6, 2003. He is also preceded in death by his son, Mark John and his sister, Mary Segar. Surviving to cherish his memory are his wife, Ponja, his son, Bradley J. (Myrna) of Olivet, daughter, Sarah Ann (Thomas) Buttrick of Gaylord, and grandchildren Spencer (Jessica) and Page (Freddie) Vahs, and Hilary and Stephanie Buttrick. Richard is a life member of the Masons and a past Worshipful Master of the Olivet Lodge. He has been a lifelong member of Olivet Congregational Church, and a supporter of Olivet High School sports, arts and FFA. Richard was also a longtime member of Olivet’s Round Table Breakfast Club at the Coachlight where many world problems are solved daily. Funeral services will be held at 12 Noon Monday, September 15, 2014 at the Olivet Congregational Church with Pastor Jack Brown officiating, assisted by Pastor Doug Hammond of the Olivet First Assembly of God Church. Interment will be in the Olivet Cemetery. A luncheon will follow at the Church. The family will receive visitors at the Burkhead-Green Funeral Home in Charlotte on Sunday, September 14, 2014 from 2-6 P.M.
