Richard G. Manning of Charlotte, formerly of Grand Rapids, age 83, died Wednesday, Oct. 22, 2014 at his residence after an extended illness. Mr. Manning was born May 12, 1931 in Grand Rapids the son of Emil M. and Anita (Meyer) Manning and had been a Charlotte resident since 1997. He served in the U. S. Army during the Korean War and was employed as a retail office supply salesman. He was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church of Charlotte. Surviving are: his wife of 60 years, Nancy L. (Van Dyke) Manning; 2 sons, Mark (Susan) Manning of Johnstown, CO and Ryan (Beverly) Manning of Charlotte; six grandchildren, Gabe (Jami) Evans, Emily (Cody) Van Pelt, Erika (Derik) Rickerd, Mike Manning, Matthew Manning and Mara Manning; 8 great grandchildren and 2 brothers, Roger Manning of Grand Rapids and Dan Manning of Ludington. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday, Oct. 25, 2014 at the Burkhead-Green Funeral Home of Charlotte with Pastor Mark Booth officiating. Interment with military honors will follow in the Maple Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Friday from 2-4 & 6-8 PM at the Funeral Home.
