Richard V. Fender, age 94, of Sunfield, passed away peacefully at his home with his family by his side. He was born November 18, 1926, in Sebewa Township, Ionia County, MI the son of Melvin and Jennie (Cassel) Fender. Dick graduated from Sunfield High School with the class of 1944. He went on to serve his country in the United States Army. On March 25, 1963, he married Mary Wanda Blevins in Sunfield. Dick was a life long farmer and also worked at numerous factories throughout the area. He was an avid hunter and fisherman who loved spending time outdoors. In his younger years he enjoyed boxing above the store in Sebewa, playing baseball, and golfing. Dick also enjoyed coaching the local youth in baseball. Dick is survived by his children: Joyce Payne of Tuscon, AZ, Leona (Dale) Hanson of Sebewa, Bud (Jari) Collins of Sunfield, John Collins of Vermontville; Wanda Kimball of DeWitt, Lou Ann (Brian) Harag of Charlotte; numerous grandchildren; and several great and great great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Mary; and brother, Glen Fender. In keeping with Dick’s wishes, cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held at a later date.
