Robert Gaylen Rundle, age 97, passed away Thursday, December 7, 2017, at River Wind Assisted Living in Williamston. He was a survivor and a humble member of the greatest generation. Robert was born in Battle Creek, Michigan to Donald M. and Hazel (Wetmore) Rundle. They moved to Lansing where he later attended Lansing Eastern High School. He honorably served his country during World War II in the United States Army, 103rd Division, 410th Infantry, Company C. Bob was a decorated ground soldier in the European Theater of Operations from 1944-1945. During his service he earned a EAME Theater Ribbon, 2 Bronze Stars, Good Conduct Medal, and World War II Victory Medal. After he returned from the war he attained his degree in Mortuary Science from Wayne State University. On August 28, 1948 he married "his better half" Madelene Corr. They resided in East Lansing for the majority of their 58 years of marriage. He was most proud of their six children and the families they raised. He enjoyed watching sports, driving fast cars, and his longevity. He was a man of few words but his words were often funny, wise and memorable. Robert and his family are thankful to the wonderful staff of individuals at River Wind Assisted Living, who with respect supported his desire to maintain his independence his last years at his home in Williamston. Robert is survived by his children: Christopher (Cheryl) Rundle, Craig (Ann) Rundle, Mark Rundle, Michele Rundle, Laurie (former husband David) Ludington, and Elise Rundle; grandchildren: Kato (Mark) Giffin, Brian Rundle, Travis (Sarah) Rundle, Troy Rundle; great grandchildren: Tyler, Rachel and Grant. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Madelene; brother, Donald Rundle; infant children, Robert and Stephanie; and family member, Larry Lee Lott, Lauries espoused. In keeping with Roberts wishes cremation has taken place and a private family burial will take place at a later date. Roberts request was that his family be served by the Burkhead-Green-Kilgo Funeral Home, Charlotte. Those desiring may make contributions in Roberts honor to the charity of their choice.
