Robert B. Haynes, the oldest son of Russell and Edna (Harms) Haynes, was born on Christmas Day 1936, in Gratiot County, Michigan. His life’s journey ended peacefully on August 7, 2022 at the Maple View Retirement Community, Ithaca, Michigan. Dad’s childhood and youth years were spent in the farming community of Gratiot County, and his early education was at the Woods Country School. When our father was thirteen years old, God called him to repentance and he was baptized on January 23, 1949 by Minister Jesse Johnson. On May 6, 1956, Dad was married to his life’s companion, Marilyn Seiler, and theirs was a life of sharing, caring, and following God’s plan for them. Our parents resided in the Carson City area. Dad retired from the Michigan Department of Transportation after 29 years. Some qualities our father lived by were punctuality and honesty. We remember his motto: “Right on is close enough.” During his retirement, he enjoyed working as a clock smith. In the early eighties, Dad and Mom reconsecrated their lives, which led them to a rich life of service, including time spent in Gallup New Mexico, Window Rock Arizona, the Germany Tract Office, and in Goshen, Indiana. Our parents also enjoyed being involved in the mission at Sarasota Florida during the winter months. Many lasting friendships were formed during these times of service. Last fall, our parents joined the Maple View Retirement Community. We are very grateful for the loving care they have received, which has often been beyond the call of duty. We are comforted in knowing he is at rest and is waiting for us on the other side. Those left to treasure precious memories are his loving wife, Marilyn; his two sons: Todd and Pam, Carson City, Michigan and Brent and Eileen, Guntersville, Alabama; eight grandchildren, whom he dearly loved and prayed for: Jamie and Terry Schmidt, Rachelle and Taylor Giesbrecht, Jordon and Alicia Haynes, Natasha and Elijah lung, Trevor and Kara Haynes, Aaron and Deanna Haynes, Mindy and Steven Jantz and Austin Haynes; 16 great grandchildren; one sister: Vada Litwiller; three brothers: Jerry and Bonnie, Kendall and Joyce, and Ed and Anita; one brother-in-law, Carl and Rosie Litwiller; two sisters-in-law: Lois Buck and Vada Seiler. Those who have gone before: his parents, parents-in-law, his daughter-in-law, Carmen, his sister, Letha, and three brothers-in-law. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, August 11, 2022, at 10:30 A.M. at the Mt. Calm Mennonite Church with Ministers Mike Litwiller, James Leid, and Jeff Litwiller officiating. The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 2 P.M. to 4 P.M. and 6 P.M. to 8 P.M. at the church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Those desiring may make contributions in Bob's memory to Maple View Retirement Community, 4396 S. Luce Road, Ithaca, MI 48847.
