Robert Leroy Delaney

Robert L. Delaney, of Charlotte, MI, formerly of the Gaylord, MI area, age 79, died Saturday, Sept. 6, 2014 at the Sensations Memory Care in Charlotte after a lengthy illness. Mr. Delaney was born June 15, 1935 in Johannesburg, MI the son of Samuel and Violet (James) Delaney. He was a retired Michigan State Police Officer with over 27 years of service. He was a veteran of the U. S. Army and was a member of the Vanderbilt Community Church of Vanderbilt, MI and currently attended the Chester Gospel Church of Charlotte. Survivors include: his wife of 60 years, Shirley (Robinson) Delaney; four children, Robert (Bethany) Delaney, Jr. of Charlotte, Shelley (Jerry) Melville of Marcellus, Thomas (Dianne) Delaney of Greenville, NC and Dianna (Scott) Martin of Ypsilanti; 9 grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren and his sister, Norrine (Larry) Dipzinski of New York. He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Jean and 4 brothers, Wesley, Franklin, Raymond and Earl. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A. M. Tuesday, Sept. 9, 2014 at the Chester Gospel Church, 3744 W. Vermontville Hwy., Charlotte, MI 48813 with Pastor Marc Livingston officiating. Visitation will be held on Monday from 6-8 P.M. at the Burkhead-Green Funeral Home in Charlotte and on Tuesday from 10:00 A. M. until time of services at the Church. Further Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, September 13, 2014 at the Vanderbilt Community Church in Vanderbilt, Michigan with Pastor John Bifoss officiating. Visitation will be held from 6-8 P.M. Friday, September 12, 2014 at the Nelson Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Gaylord, Michigan and Saturday from 10:00 A.M. until service time at the Church. Interment will be in the Fairview Cemetery in Gaylord, MI. Memorial contributions are suggested to the Chester Gospel Church of Charlotte, MI or the Vanderbilt Community Church of Vanderbilt, MI.
