Ronald A. Harvitt, of Charlotte, MI, age 77, died Thursday Jan. 23, 2014 at the Hayes-Green-Beach Hospital after an extended illness. Ron was born July 30, 1936 in Detroit, MI the son of Ralph A. and Mabel (Fike) Harvitt and had been a Charlotte/Olivet area resident for most of the time since 1956. He had served in the U. S. Army in the late 1950’s and had been employed at General Motors in Lansing from where he retired after 30 years of service. He was currently a member of the First Congregational Church UCC in Charlotte and a past member of the Charlotte Optimist Club. Surviving are: his wife of 49 years, Rachel (Plummer) Harvitt; Daughters, Deborah (James) Wells of Charlotte and Pamela (Craig) Coombs of Cortland, NY; Son, Michael (Lori) Harvitt of Grand Haven, MI; 9 grandchildren, Melissa (Eric) Bolger, Daniel (Micke) Wells, Rebecca (Justin Little) Wells, Jessie Wells, Rachel Coombs, Jacob Harvitt, Luke Harvitt, Caroline Harvitt and Olivia Harvitt; 5 great grandchildren, Emily & Ethan Bolger, Courtney & Noah Little and Keegan Wells; Siblings, Thomas Harvitt of Portland, OR, Merrill (Sandra) Harvitt of Traverse City and Charles (Evelyn) Harvitt of Traverse City; Sister-in-law, Patricia Brown of Carson City, NV. He was preceded in death by: his parents; Infant brother, Leon Harvitt; Brother, Carl Harvitt and Sister, Kathryn Lewis. At Ron’s request, cremation has taken place. There will be no Funeral Home visitation. A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 A. M. Tuesday, January 28, 2014 at the First Congregational Church UCC, 106 S. Bostwick St. in Charlotte with Rev. Philip Hobson officiating. There will be visitation from 10:00 A. M. until time of services on Tuesday at the Church. A Luncheon will follow the services at the Church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may go to the First Congregational Church UCC or to the Hayes-Green-Beach Hospital Auxiliary. Envelopes will be available at the Church.
