Ronald Charles Higdon

Ronald C. “Higgy” Higdon of Charlotte passed away peacefully from a long battle with Colon Cancer on Saturday, May 21, 2016 after waiting for his daughter to leave his room so that she would not have to experience his last breath, all while his Detroit Tigers were playing in the background. Ron was born June 14, 1933 in Lansing the son of Clare and Inez (Livingston) Higdon. He had been a Charlotte resident since 1961 coming from Eaton Rapids. He was a 1951 Graduate of Eaton Rapids High School, served in the U. S. Air Force for 4 years and was a retired employee of the General Motors Fisher Body Plant in Lansing. Ron was a member of the Charlotte Eagles Aerie #3552, was an avid Detroit Tigers and M.S.U. fan, enjoyed playing cards, Harness Racing, reading Western books and watching old movies. Surviving are: his daughter, Lisa Delcamp of Charlotte; step son, David Williams of Arizona; three grandchildren, Travis Delcamp of Texas, Tyler Delcamp of Charlotte and Trey Delcamp of Charlotte and great granddaughter Hannah Delcamp. He was preceded in death by: his wife, Sally (Sterrett) Higdon in 1969; his father, Clare Higdon; his mother & step-father, Inez and Vern Halifax; brother, Robert Higdon; sister, Lois VanSlyters and step-daughter, Nancy Williams. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM Thursday, May 26, 2016 at the Burkhead-Green Funeral Home in Charlotte with Rev. Charles Jenson officiating. Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 2-4 & 6-8 PM at the Funeral Home with an Eagles Memorial service being held at 7:00 PM. Interment with Military Honors will be in the Maple Hill Cemetery.
