Sandra Kay Sonnie Cody

Sandra Kay "Sonnie" Cody, age 80, of Charlotte, passed away Monday, December 25, 2017 at Hope Landing in Charlotte after an extended illness. Sonnie was born June 27, 1937 in Charlotte the daughter of Everett and Pauline (Horn) Granger. She was a lifelong Charlotte resident. Sonnie was a 1955 graduate of Charlotte High School where she had served on the reunion committee since graduation. She had been employed as an Insurance Adjustor for Michigan Mutual/Amerisure Insurance Company from where she retired after almost 40 years of service. She was a member of the Lawrence Avenue United Methodist Church and the GFWC Charlotte. She had volunteered delivering Mobile Meals and enjoyed traveling with her husband and spending time watching sunsets in Maui, Hawaii. Sandra was also passionate about her cats. They were an important part of her life. Sandra is survived by her sisters: Phillis (Gene) Montgomery of Charlotte, Sue (Gary) Pruden of Charlotte; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Lawrence E. Cody; and sister, Carol McGlaughlin. Per Sonnies wishes, cremation has taken place. A Memorial Service will be held at 11 AM Tuesday, January 2, 2018 at the Lawrence Avenue United Methodist Church, 210 E. Lawrence Ave., Charlotte with Rev. Gary Wales officiating. Visitation will be held on Tuesday for one hour prior to the Memorial Service. Memorial contributions may be made to the Lawrence Avenue United Methodist Church or Eaton Community Palliative Care. Envelopes will be available at the service.
