Stanley Peter Horn

Stanley Peter Horn, age 94, of Charlotte, MI, died Monday, June 6, 2016 at Brookdale Assisted Living near Grand Blanc, MI. Stanley was born May 7, 1922 to Peter and Ollie (Ells) Horn on the family farm outside of Charlotte. He graduated from Charlotte High School in 1940. He married Esther Young on February 11, 1943 in Charlotte, Michigan. Stanley served as a Military Policeman in World War II in New York and Texas and was a member of the Charlotte American Legion Post No. 42. This early traveling experience continued throughout his life visiting parts of Canada and Mexico, and most of the United States except for Washington and Oregon. Stan was active in the Winnebago Travel Club, Travel Trailer Club of the Midwest, Cheerful Campers, and Good Sam Club making many friends in his travels. Stanley farmed. He also worked at Wilcox Gay, B. F. Goodrich, Allen Packing Company, and retired from Olivet College Maintenance in 1984. He was a member of Olivet Congregational Church and former church trustee until transferring his membership to Charlotte Congregational Church after moving off the farm and into Charlotte. Stan delivered and served Meals on Wheels for years and belonged to the Charlotte Senior Center, Olivet Senior Citizen Center and Farm Bureau. He was an active member of the Bellevue Whirlaway Square Dancers Club and the Battle Creek Area Square Dance Association. Stanley enjoyed gardening, camping, and serving people, but most of all he loved his family. Surviving are his wife of 73 years, Esther; daughter and son-in-law, Roxie and Dennis Zuercher of West Lafayette, IN; sons and daughters-in-law, Roger and Dawn Horn of Grand Blanc and Rande and Fran Ahern Horn of Ferndale. He has 17 grandchildren; 23 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Louise Mott and Elizabeth Little. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM Friday, June 10, 2016 at the Burkhead-Green Funeral Home in Charlotte with Pastor Dennis Zuercher officiating.
