Suseann Van Liew

Suseann Verlene Van Liew, age 73, of Mason, passed away peacefully on Monday, December 20, 2021. She was born May 10, 1948, in Lansing, the daughter of Gene and Verlene (Lanningham) Ritter. Sue graduated from Lansing Everett High School with the Class of 1966. After graduation Sue pursued her career as a nurse and went on to obtain her nursing degree from Mid-Michigan Community College in Harrison. She was a dedicated home healthcare nurse for over 30 years. On July 29, 1989, she married Thomas R. Van Liew. They were married over 32 years and sadly, Tom passed away just one day after Sue, on December 21, 2021. She was an avid seamstress and jeweler, making quilts and jewelry for friends and family. Sue is survived by her mother, Verlene Ritter of East Lansing; sister, Linda (Jim) Clymer of Ludington; brothers: Robert (Kim) Ritter of Higgins Lake, Ronald (Christine) Ritter of Sweetwater, TN; children: Harriet Clawson of Lansing, Angela (Terry) Ritter-Pringle of Harrison, Mike (Amanda) Miller of Harrison, Dawn (Rick) Ledford of Vermontville, Robert (Rhonda) Miller of Charlotte; step-children: Tom (Anyssa) Van Liew of Holt; Jeff (Katie) Van Liew of Holt, Lisa (Michael) West of Lansing; 19 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her father, Gene Ritter; and grandparents: David and Dorothy Mulford, and Claude and Vera Ritter. In keeping with Sue’s wishes cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held at a later date.
