Thomas J. George of Haslett, MI, formerly of Gun Lake, Roscommon, Grand Ledge and Charlotte, MI, died Saturday, Sept. 1, 2012 at Wynwood of Meridian in Haslett MI. Tom was born Jan. 23, 1936 in Lansing, MI the son of Hendry and Virginia (Kelner) George. He was a 1954 Graduate of Charlotte High School, has served in the U. S. Air Force, while in Grand Ledge had been a member and President of the Grand Ledge Jaycees and later served as a member and President of the Gerrish-Higgins District School Board in the Roscommon area. He retired as a Vice President of the Carter’s Food Centers with over 30 years of service. He was preceded in death by: his parents; his wife of 53 years, Louise A. (Johnson) George in 2009; step father, Fay Carpenter and his brother, David George. Surviving are: sons, Mark (Pamela) George of East Lansing and Michael (Betsy) George of Albany, WI; daughter, Ragene Catrell of Overland Park, KS; 9 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren and his brother, Bruce Carpenter of Leesburg, FL. Funeral services will be held at 7:00 P. M. Tuesday, Sept. 4, 2012 at the Burkhead-Green Funeral Home, Charlotte with Pastor Robin Crouch of First Baptist Church officiating. Visitation will be held also on Tuesday from 5:00 P. M. until time of services at the Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may go to the American Heart Association.
