Verdetta Jean Dewey

Verdetta J. (Mahon) Dewey age 79 of Charlotte, MI passed away Friday, Jan. 23, 2015 at the Sparrow Hospital in Lansing after a brief illness. Verdetta was born Oct. 9, 1935 in Lansing the daughter of Edward and Leone (Starkweather) Mahon and was a lifelong Charlotte area resident. She was a 1954 Graduate of Charlotte High School, was a Graduate of the St. Lawrence Hospital School of Nursing. She had worked for a while at St. Lawrence Hospital and then worked for 28 years with Dr. Robert Leeser in his Charlotte Practice before retiring. She was a longtime active member of the First Congregational Church of Charlotte and was an active volunteer at the Eaton Area Senior Center, The Eaton Community Palliative Care and the local Community Dinners. Surviving are: her children, Paula (Michael) Chadderdon, Scott (Charmayne) Dewey and Janelle (Michael) Thomas; 10 Grandchildren, Hannah & Jeremiah Chadderdon, Rhett & Evan Dewey, Alexandria Dewey, Tessa & Tyler Dewey, Phillip, Holly & Matthew Thomas; 3 great grandchildren, Tyler & Ava Lester and James LaMarr Stetson; sister, Faith (Britt) Morgan; brother, Mike (Donna) Mahon; numerous nieces & nephews and hundreds of friends in the Charlotte Community where she touched many lives. She was preceded in death by: her parents; her husband, John A. Dewey; her son, Ramey J. Dewey and brothers, Tom and Roger Mahon. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Tuesday, Jan. 27, 2015 at the First Congregational Church UCC of Charlotte with Rev. Philip Hobson officiating. Interment will be in the Needmore Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Monday from 2-4 & 6-8 PM at the Burkhead-Green Funeral Home in Charlotte and on Tuesday from 10:00 AM until time of services at the Church.
