Walter E. Thornton, age 84, of Charlotte, MI, formerly of Lansing, MI died Saturday, June 07, 2014 in Charlotte. Mr. Thornton was born April 18, 1930 in Dayton, TN the son of Eugene and Helen (Mowry) Thornton. He had served in the Mich. Army National Guard and had been employed in the Parts Division of General Motors from where he retired after 30 years of service. He had been a member since 1950 of the Gospel Assembly Church in Lansing and was a “great giver to those in need.” Surviving are: his wife, Doris; step-sister, Gayle (Jack) Huntoon of Eagle; 4 nieces, Lorie (Greg) Brace, Julie (Paul) Maisonneuve, Ellie (Michael) Roberts and Amy Warren; five step children, Edward Young, Sandra (Bob) VanSplintern, Tom Young, Teddy Young and Larry Young all of Charlotte; many grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Wendell Thornton and his first wife, Delora (Fuller) Thornton. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM Wednesday, June 11, 2014 at the Burkhead-Green Funeral Home of Charlotte with Pastor Richard Workman officiating. Interment will be in the Dewitt Cemetery, Dewitt, MI. Visitation will be held from 6-8PM on Tuesday at the Funeral Home.
