Dr. William Michael Lynch, age 89, of DeWitt, passed away Sunday, December 6, 2020, at his home with his wife by his side. Dr. Lynch was born in Highland Park, MI on January 23, 1931, to Patrick and Hannah Lynch. Bill graduated from St. Benedict High School in Highland Park in 1949. He attended Michigan State University where he met his wife Evelyn Elizabeth Zerfas. They were married September 19, 1953 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Three Rivers, Michigan. He graduated from MSU as a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine in 1955. He concurrently served as a captain in the US Air Force and as a base veterinarian, where he cared for the Calvary horses, guard dogs, and family pets. He owned and practiced at East Haven Animal Hospital in Ann Arbor for 12 years and at Hagadorn Veterinary Clinic in East Lansing until he retired in 1996. Bill loved old cars, most especially his 1954 MG-TF, and was a longtime member of Capitol City Old Car Club. In his spare time Bill enjoyed classic car shows, reading, pheasant hunting, bowling, golfing, traveling in his 5th wheel RV, and all MSU sports. He was a member of the Catholic Community of St. Jude and the Knights of Columbus. Bill is survived by his wife of 67 years, Evelyn; children: Michael L. (Susan) Lynch, Kathleen Lynch Gladding, James M. (Martha) Lynch, Patrick J. (Kim) Lynch; 12 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren; siblings: Marion Dwyer, Edward (Billie) Lynch, Dennis (Micaela) Lynch; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; sons: Thomas William Lynch and John Joseph Lynch; and sister, Patricia M. Costello. The family would like to thank Dawn at Firstlight Home Care and Grace Hospice for their exceptional care. A private Mass of Christian Burial will take place at the Catholic Community of St. Jude with Rev. Fr. David Speicher celebrating. Burial with military honors will take place at Fort Custer National Cemetery in Augusta, Michigan. Those desiring, may make contributions in Bill’s honor to the Michigan State University School of Veterinary Medicine or Alzheimer’s Association.
